Algebra
1A is the first semester of a 2 semester course in basic algebra concepts.
The
objectives of this course are:
·
To
simplify and evaluate numerical expressions.
·
To
translate phrases into variable expressions.
·
To
translate simple word problems into equations.
·
To
graph and compare real numbers on a number line.
·
To
use the five step plan to solve word problems.
The
base text for this course will be Algebra 1 Concepts, Skills and Problem
Solving.
The
following strategies will be used:
Other
supplemental material will be provided as needed per individual student needs.
The
students will receive grades based on points earned by participating in teacher
directed activity and work samples. Students
will be able to earn approximately 20 points per day.
Total points at reporting periods will be assigned grades as follows:
A -- 90%
of total points
B -- 80%
of total points
C -- 70% of total points
D -- 60% of total points
F -- 50% of total points
1.0 Students
identify and use the arithmetic properties of subsets of integers and rational,
irrational and real numbers including closure properties for the four basic
arithmetic operations where
applicable.
3.0
Students solve equations and inequalities involving absolute values
4.0
Students simplify expressions before solving linier equations and
equalities in one variable.
5.0 Students
solve multi-step problems, including word problems, including linear equations
and linear inequalities in one variable and provide justification for each step.
Health
is required of all students and is taught at the 9th grade level.
The course is designed to teach students to make appropriate choices in
nutrition, general safety, protecting the body from disease and making
appropriate choices regarding sexual contact and how to guard against Sexually
Transmitted diseases. The text for
this class is: Lifetime
Health
The
objectives of this course are:

To
review and discuss the importance of good physical and mental health.
·
To
understand and use good decision making skills when choosing food and snack
items.
·
To
understand the dangers of drug and alcohol use.
·
To
understand and apply strategies to avoid controllable diseases..
·
To
protect against un-wanted pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
The
following strategies will be used:

They Analyze how using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs influences
health and other behaviors.

They analyze the possible
consequences of risky hygienic and health behaviors and fads.

They investigate the causes and symptoms of communicable and
non-communicable diseases and identify types of pathogens that cause disease

Examine common types and symptoms of cancer.
1.9.P
They identify the importance of medical screenings (including breast,
cervical, testicular, and prostate examinations, and other testing) necessary to
maintain reproductive
health.
Math
Tutorial is an intervention course designed to assist students who are
struggling in math skills and have been demonstrating low scores in math.
The base text for this course will be Algebra Readiness,
and various supplemental materials.
The
objectives of this course are:

review number groups; eg; Integers, signed numbers, rational numbers
·
To
understand and use decimals and percents correctly.
·
To
compute problems in all four operations including fractions with 90%
accuracy.
·
To
understand and use general math vocabulary correctly.
·
To
use the five step plan to solve word problems.
The
following strategies will be used:
